In collaboration, Greentech and BASF offer the visitors of Greentech a tour to the BASF Tomato, Hydroponic Lettuce and Cucumber Experience Centers where you can learn how BASF makes healthy eating enjoyable and sustainable.

The experts of the vegetable seed business of BASF will take you on a tour around the hydroponic lettuce breeding greenhouse and the highwire cucumber greenhouse.

Hydroponic Lettuce

You will see trials with the Nunhems assortment of whole head lettuce varieties and teenleaf lettuce, both in deep flow growing system (DWC) and on mobile gutters (NFT). Teen leaf lettuces combine efficiency, convenience, and creativity. Their convenient, forkable and high-quality leaves make them perfect for snacking and ready to eat salads. At the same time, they stand out by being efficient and cost-effective in hydroponic production and while being processed. Their wide range of leaf shapes, colors, flavors, and textures provide endless inspiration to create healthy and delicious meals.

Highwire Cucumber Cultivation

You will see BASF trials with data driven cucumber cultivation. Experts of BASF’s vegetable seeds business will share conclusions of the first trials in 2022 which have helped to set the direction for data-driven cultivation. Which cultivation technical aspects deserve to be developed further? And which genetics best suit this way of growing? What were the learning points in 2022, for example on plant registration and RTR (Ratio Temperature Radiation). To conclude, the experts talk about the plans for 2023. How will the energy market affect the plans for 2023? And how to verify RTR in combination with lower lighting capacity?

Choose Your Favorite Tomato

After lunch the BASF tomato experts will share with you the global Battle against the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) and how BASF has developed a portfolio to win this battle without compromising on taste and shelf life. You will see the commercial portfolio for the different tomato segments and new promising Nunhems varieties for hightech tomato cultivation with ToBRFV resistance. In addition, you can participate in a tomato taste test and choose your favorite tomato!
